Specialist Kyle Burleson
is a 22 year-old HERO
from Springhill, a small town in northern Louisiana who
wanted to better his life by getting an education. To
overcome the financial obstacles he joined the Armed
Forces. Kyle was deployed to Iraq in March of 2004 where he
was seriously wounded in action. Kyle tells of his
experience:
"On the 18th
of August 2004, while on patrol, we were engaged in a firefight by insurgents. I
was the top gunner on a Hum-Vee and was hit by enemy
fire in my left cheek and the round exited out the right
side of my neck. The fragments of the round and bone
splinters damaged my spinal cord, leaving me paralyzed
from my neck down (much like Christopher Reeve’s
paralysis). I remained in
Baghdad for a
few days, while they stabilized my condition, then I was
air-evacuated to the Army Medical Center in Landstuhl,
Germany. After a period of time in Germany, I was flown
to Washington, D.C. and admitted to Walter Reed Medical
Center for numerous operations.”

Tammy, Kyle’s mother, was told by the doctor
their life would not just be 24/7, but would
require 25/8 for Kyle.
Specialist Kyle Burleson answered the call of his
Nation, his President and Freedom. Kyle Burleson
returned to his home a quadriplegic.

Kyle’s great grandparents
built a 900 square foot home in northern Louisiana. Now Kyle
spends his days confined to one of those 120 year old
rooms, a room not designed for the 14 electrical outlets it
takes to keep him alive. A house whose halls he had once
played in, now make it nearly impossible for him to move
through.
Though Kyle does not move
freely through this house anymore his daughter Allison, age
3, does. She and her brother Alexander, age 1, can not
fully understand why daddy can not play with them. Kristy,
Kyle’s wife, fully comprehends the ramifications. She not
only takes care of both children, she is also the caregiver
to her husband. Dedication and sacrifice
can not fully define what Specialist Burleson gave his
country. We believe it is our privilege to help him take
back what the sniper took away.

“Bad days
are the days I think about the things I can no longer do or
new things I will never be able to experience, like holding
my son. Good days are when I don’t think about these
things.”
-SPC. Kyle Burleson

The home with all the
necessary functionality will cost Kyle and his family
$300,000. Kyle will receive a $50,000 grant once he takes
out a $100,000 loan. Homes for
Our Troops has generously donated $150,000. We
want to pay that off the loan and raise the additional money
so they have a debt free start. The ground was broken in
September, 2005.

One of
the dreams Kyle wishes to fulfill is going back to school to
become a financial advisor. He has a computer, but his home
cannot sustain the electrical use of it because of the life
support equipment
Now we need your help more
than ever to complete this desperately needed home.
